The reframe feels a lot more disrespectful to me than merely not pursuing my demo or whatever,. That said, I’m sure it’s not intentional; this is just how product people at “data-driven” orgs think about everything.
@mrled
I hear this kind of reframing a lot from product people, and I think it is out of touch. Who asked about growth? You are hearing about friends in the feed; no one asking that question cares about growth at all. Reserve the word “growth” for your promo case. https://t.co/0X2SnbHX3o
@mrled
It would be more honest to say “I hear from people who want more of their friends posts in the feed, but we are not prioritizing what those users want because it is more profitable to ignore them”. (Or add some aspartame to the phrasing as your corporate style guide prescribes.)
@mosseri
One thing I hear a lot is people asking to see more friend content in Feed. I'd love for there to be more friend content in feed, but all the growth in photos and videos from friends has been in stories and in DMs.

Quantum Bigfoot, failure mode case study:
Probably the most infamous HDD of the 90s, the 5.25" IDE Bigfoot series use more construction material and terrible performance compared to a 3.5" drive. They also fail, the drive did nothing and the controller board was getting hot. https://t.co/TpDClqWBIJ

If you want to use an $EDITOR proven to be there for the long haul, working consistently for nearly 50 years while other editors have come and gone, there's always ed(1).

The end of Atom got you feeling like this? 😭
We humbly suggest checking out the @vscodetips community for all the help you need to get up and running with VS Code. It won't bring back Atom but...it might ease the pain a little 🥲

And now, it's (almost) over.

@eigenrobot That’s not the craziest ex-military guy who shot squirrels from his window I’ve met though. I knew a marine vet who owned an AC repair company and also did reiki massage. He shot squirrels from his second story window with a laser sight.
@mrled
@eigenrobot This reminds me of my late grandfather. He loved the pecans he planted in his backyard, and so did the squirrels. He kept a BB gun on his back porch to manage them.
@eigenrobot
my grandfather is retired and in assisted living now, but he hated squirrels too. he fought them his entire time as a homeowner
minnesota law prohibits deadly squirrel traps, so my grandfather would live trap them and then kill them himself.
the war raged on for decades
@eigenrobot
"why would you do this"
im glad you asked. its because i fucking hate squirrels. its a downright racial Animus. remember the ranger class. my favored enemy, and that of my ancestors, is squirrels
@eigenrobot
ok. so
(1) what are these vents[?] on the underside of my garage overhang
(2) how bad if at all is it that I sealed about 40% of the vents on one side of the garage with a double layer of duct tape https://t.co/K36XZ9cSBH

Stop sharing photos of concept cars! There are enough regular cars that people can’t buy bc of market conditions, there is simply no reason to add another level of cars people can’t buy because they don’t exist.

Image + alt text, sure.
What about video steganography? Is there such a thing as a video QR code? How small would my dataset have to be for me to be able to back it up only in tweets?

@jifarris The next obvious step is building an expensive burr grinder to replicate the grounds I prefer from a spinning-blade grinder, getting good marketing copy about how it's the "proper mixture" of fine and coarse grounds, and selling it for $250 without telling my origin story
@jifarris
@mrled So interesting! You've invented a new type of grounds.
@mrled
Experiment update: yes, the result of half coarse and half fine is a huge improvement. Will play around with various mixtures but just a half fine on setting 2 and half coarse on setting 10 tastes like what I am looking for. ~1.15oz of beans. Yum https://t.co/vf3N8RQgvS
@mrled
@jifarris Tomorrow my plan is to grind a half ounce fine/medium and a half ounce coarse and try to validate my hypothesis.
@mrled
@jifarris I think I'm going to keep it for at least a while longer, there are still settings to play with, and it will be good to understand this a bit more. At least so that when I go over to the in-laws, I know how to use their burr grinder + pour-over to get coffee I like better. :)
