@ericmigi @onbeeper Oh that would be cool. I’d love to be able to scroll through separate discussions started in a channel. Could rely on starts of threads for that, or for groups that don’t thread much could rely on lulls/flurries in conversation.
@ericmigi
@mrled @onbeeper One feature we have been thinking about is 'catch me up on what happened in this fast-moving group thread/channel'. What heuristics would you use to gauge which events in the chat history are important to you?
@ericmigi
@mrled @onbeeper Really glad you shared this perspective! I hadn't thought of it from this angle before. It makes a lot of sense.
@mrled
@ericmigi @onbeeper Mostly I have notifications enabled bc I don’t want to miss things. Most other people in the rooms keep notifications disabled, and do miss things. My wish is for more of a gradient so there are notification options in between.
@ericmigi
@mrled @onbeeper do you have mobile notifications enabled for these busy rooms? My initial reaction is that most people have notifications disabled, and generally will see that these busy rooms have activity when they check inbox for other reasons. Negating need for a dedicated notif for them
@mrled
@ericmigi @onbeeper You can see them in one spot if you open the app, but afaik you have to choose between turning off all notifications for a channel or getting a flurry of notifications every time conversation flares up. Would be nice to get reminders to check w/o notification of each message.
@ericmigi
@mrled @onbeeper Slack has something kinda like this right? You can see all your mentions in one spot.
I guess what you're looking for here though is more of a summary, like what Google Groups used to do right?
@mrled
@ericmigi @onbeeper I have wished for periodic notifications for busy rooms for a long time. Eg once or twice a day, a notification like “activity #/chatroom from user1, user2, and 8 more”. Would pair well with good threading implementation, so that conversations could be more async.
@ericmigi
Spending some time researching and thinking about how @onbeeper can offer chat inbox management tools. To help you feel less overwhelmed by all your incoming messages. Feel free to ping me if you have thoughts on this!
@mrled
Been planning on getting the mini when my phone broke, and that finally happened the other day. Holding them side by side I think the much lighter weight will improve my RSI, no shit. I can hold it in basically any position indefinitely, which is not the case for the old one.
@mrled
New bb https://t.co/y1qrLSbuIj
@mrled
Would be neat if there were a way to register that your app needs special action on migration. Like how you have to transfer Signal to the new phone manually, and I had to reauthorize Microsoft Authenticator with my work account
@mrled
Would be nice for those apps to present a screen during migration with instructions. As it is today, you have to go look at every app you have and guess which ones might need extra steps.

@mrled
@Virtual1nstinct Would love to see a write up of your implementation if you do this. Maybe even would make a good first post :)
@mrled
@Virtual1nstinct What a cool idea. How is your site made? Seems pretty doable if you’re using a static generator, especially one of the extensible ones.
@mrled
to everyone discussing how different it will be if DST changes, my recommendation is to simply do what you want when you want. wake up early if you want to. go into work when you want. get up early, in the predawn black, pack up your schoolthings, and walk directly into hell if y

Twitter is now telling me it’s on the latest, and it took away the separate home tab altogether, but it’s clearly still in Home mode. Who am I going to trust, the Product Team or my own lying eyes? https://t.co/DYsFdYBFBU

@Jowjoso Time to reverse engineer the HTTP API using browser dev tools? It might be easy! Never done it with jira but I have used it to grab Zillow and airdna data that they don’t have public APIs for
@Jowjoso
once again i am begging you to stop making me bulk edit jira tickets the cap is 1k and it takes 30 minutes per 1k edit why won't you give me api access you buffooooooooooooooooons

son, when a man and a woman love each other very much, they want to send each other messages. let’s call one of them Bob and the other one Alice. Bob would like to establish a secure way to send messages to Alice, so first Bob finds a large prime number

@meekaale Do you think this is true of code written by other people? I can see this being true of my own code, but I cannot imagine looking at someone else’s code for the first time (probably during an outage) and saying “I wish a mathematician wrote this” or whatever.
@meekaale
I am genuinely convinced that one of the most powerful ways to make a program easier to understand and work with is to systematically replace verbose names with terse & cryptic jargon
@mrled
I made an extremely cursed drink on Sunday that is far better than it has any right to be. Absinthe + Diet Dr Pepper. I am convinced you could sell this as “an absinthe cocktail made with a secret elixir of spices” and no one would know and everyone would love it
@mrled
@Jowjoso It was on society6 but it was clearly a jpeg someone saved from Instagram and sold as a poster 🙄 so it didnt look as good on the wall as I hoped :(
@Jowjoso
@mrled excuse me where did you find this I love it

One thing about gaming being only semi possible on a Mac is that it actually has no idea what my screen time is
@mrled
“Your screen time was down 26% last week” yeah because I spent the entire day yesterday, literally the entire day, playing Endless Sky on my PC
@mrled
Endless Sky even has a Mac port but the PC is where the games go so that’s where I played it. It’s fucking excellent by the way. If you miss Escape Velocity, give Endless Sky a try. It’s free!
@mrled
@SpecificElectrc Gotta make sure the software is 👌- my wish is 100% no interaction, no cloud data, saves directly to my phone without having to open an app first.
@SpecificElectrc
@mrled I have no joke been looking for a company that will prototype it for me. I have an idea.
@mrled
The Skype product manager who got "Share with Skype" shitware in the context menu after everything you install on purpose got hidden behind "Show more options" should get a bonus, and also a lump of coal for Christmas https://t.co/PPWEI2uXhc
@mrled
@Jowjoso Also, check it out, cursed domain name https://t.co/4EflhrNoad
@mrled
@Jowjoso Yeah. More important to me is not having to keep a log of my weights myself like some sort of prehistoric dad recording every fill-up in a gas logbook. (Without sacrificing privacy.)
@Jowjoso
@mrled yeah I think that's fair, although I'm not really worried about that; I'm gonna see the. number eventually
@mrled
@Jowjoso I really do think that having no display would make this almost stress free, but if it comes with a display and otherwise satisfies you could always put duct tape on it
@mrled
@Jowjoso This kind of thing could be a start: https://t.co/vLwjlvhE24
Imo requiring you to open an app for it to work is not optimal. Would be better if it went to your device without any intervention on your part.
Wake up -> Stand on scale -> Brush teeth
@Jowjoso
@mrled God I hate that shit. but yeah. as I recall their privacy policy is also bad
@mrled
@Jowjoso The most aggressive cooking banner I've ever seen. What a dick move lol
@mrled
@Jowjoso Now that's promising https://t.co/Gq8wdeg4s1
@mrled
@Jowjoso I found something called Shapa, but they started with the scale (good idea) and I can only presume realized "how do I monetize this" and came up with a subscription plan and a whole diet plan / "lifestyle" thing.
@mrled
Also while I'm at it, I think the world needs something as private as Apple Health, but not tied to a divisive brand. Again, funding problem, who would spend the money to make this without being able to profit from it.
@Jowjoso
@mrled the closest thing to this that I know of is the withings ecosystem, by which I mean they absolutely report it to a cloud.
there was some work to make it function with gadget Bridge iirc but last I heard that wasn't like end user ready
I also want this.
@mrled
Wish there was a scale, without a display, that would record weight automatically, and not report it to any online service, or show it to me, just save it to the Apple Health app silently in the background, without needing to open the app, so I could track trends over time.
@mrled
The best path to an IPO is having a subscriber user base and combing through the user's data like an 80s phone phreak in the AT&T dumpsters, but that's also the best path to sending out an email beginning with "We take your privacy very seriously".
