@RatOrthodox @Aella_Girl I tried “tell me more?” Several times from a @SwiftOnSecurity tweet suggesting it and it surprised me how successful it was at starting a conversation and getting three other person to open up

@RatOrthodox

One of the biggest culture shocks for me is when I am out in the world and realize that asking someone “how do you know that?” after they make a claim is widely considered offensive. This makes me pretty sad.

Buying into the Apple ecosystem: everything will be in sync and easy to use together 👑🏝🌈🌞 Also buying into the Apple ecosystem: every god damned fucking device you have will need to go offline for 60 fucking minutes on the same day ☠️👿💩💣

WHY does Amazon need to use 5 different email addresses to tell me about my order? It feels like they add a new one every week https://t.co/eiTR5dWMkA

Very funny to me when some developer’s email address redaction function of first letter + asterisks + last letter encounters my me@ address. Eg this from tiktok. What would they do if my address were just a single letter? https://t.co/ReuZLVRw4r

@mrled

I've finally found the best answer to this question. On a recent @SCWpod, one of the @Tailscale guys said that people sometimes set up Tailscale in a few minutes and, with nothing left to do, build their own DERP server even though it isn't necessary. I felt seen. https://t.co/4qnXP62Gu9

@danluu Interesting. I used Jekyll at first but find myself much happier with Hugo. Not to say that it has never broken anything for me, just that it’s been far less often than Ruby environments all by themselves (Jekyll breaking changes aside) used to break.

$10 Million dollars, but you never get to code again… you takin it?

@Jowjoso I think the topic was in the news too long and people got bored lol. Once people started arguing about whether to pronounce it log forge that was it, attention span limit exceeded.

@Jowjoso

Last weeks set of log4j1 findings i'm just learning about, and why is this industry so rude to me lmao

Beware: I am experiencing a new Idea. Has anyone tried to make a Linux distribution that runs only Powershell? (You could have an anemic /bin/sh for posix compliance and third party code compatibility, or forgo compliance for funsies)

@mrled

I wonder how far you could go. I think a distro that writes its systems scripts in Powershell would be pretty good for learning/hackability. I wonder if you could get X or Wayland or GUIs to run.

My confusion is why they married this to DoH, when I can't see that they have anything to do with each other. Am I wrong about that?

@mrled

Confused about Firefox DNS resolution with DoH enabled - it will *throw away* responses from CloudFlare that contain RFC1918 private IP addresses, meaning FF cannot resolve eg /cloudkey.home.micahrl.com to 192.168.1.2 even though it's in public DNS. Why?

@mrled

Googling reveals something about DNS rebinding. Apparently "network.trr.allow-rfc1918=true" in about:config can fix this. AFAICT it is about devices on home networks with default credentials. Seems like a reasonable default I guess.

Dropped my phone in the sink so I took the case off to dry it. (💜 IP68.) Forgot how much nicer this thing feels without it. Only added one bc of the glass back, which Our Gracious OEM 🍎 charges $600 (!!!!) to replace if it breaks - a regrettable product decision.

@mrled

Everyone who heard about Activision Blizzard for the first time in June 2021 has a lot to say today

@mrled

All the attempts so far are super half-hearted, like https://t.co/77AtoVNNVv's "here's your scrollback and maybe the directory you were in (or not, lol, state, amirite?)"

@mrled

While I'm thinking about UX, I notice that Microsoft is trying to be good at commandlines, and also that my work PC rebooted over the weekend. If they could make terminal sessions seamless across reboots, that would be a killer feature for ops/deployment/sysadmin teams like mine.

@mrled

Reminds me of how fast the Windows native list control is, and how slow the myriad reimplementations are, e.g. Steam circa 2004.

@mrled

When I was learning macOS/iOS development I was surprised to see how much work had gone into the fast, scrolling list control. It can handle thousands of elements in a contiguous scrollable view! It's awesome! I *wish* those were table stakes bc the UX is far superior.

@mrled

Deranged to me that web browsers, fundamentally programs about Scrolling Down, run apps which reimplement Scrolling Down so badly that one way to tell if an app is Electron is if it can only Scroll Down in pages. E.g. checking a busy Discord channel for the first time in a while.

@mrled

I have a Google alert for a few different variations of my name (because I am, ashamedly, vainglorious). They alert me whenever some fuckwad sets up a new domain with content from NPM, where I have like 2 packages. Why doesn’t Google configure fuckwad alerts and de-index them?

@mrled

my read on exclamation points is that to use one is normal, but to use 2-5 is restrained. anyone using that many actually wanted to use like 10-20, but felt like it would be "too much"

@mrled

@Jowjoso Yeah it's for me not for work. And I can't use Google Sheets, it's slow and besides I only use it for things like this https://t.co/AHuWq76Dgb
