@ChristianSelig This reminds me that this can be a contentious issue elsewhere in software too, e.g. MongoDB's SSPL controversy, different from Amplosion but the desire to be "open source" is the same.

@ChristianSelig I answered no on the poll. What would you call code that can be copied and republished freely? It is nice to have a moniker for code like this. Fwiw i have no moral stance on whether code is open or not and i bought and love Amplosion.

(4/6) I don't want to be a dick. I published it so people can learn, audit, or even compile it onto their own device (without paying me). I just don't want people to redistribute it, because I think making a living from software is fair.

(2/6) I personally don't agree, I think to the average person (myself included), "open source" is a common term that means the code is openly available on a site like GitHub. I don't think that entitles you to take it for your own and resell it or something.

(3/6) I understand for a lot of people "open source" means a Richard Stallman definition of software should be free, but I think language evolves, and I think in modern day "open source" is a fair characterization of code that is on GitHub for all to see and peruse.

I’ve written like 1500 lines of bash in the last two weeks and my entire experience of bash is just Googling how to do anything and never retaining anything. I wonder if this is what Java felt like in the 2000s.

Just realized that you can't say "leaving in the old codepath until we test in prod" because that sounds lazy and foolish, but you can say "leaving in the old codepath until the new one is battle-tested" and it sounds perfectly responsible

Why do websites take over cmd-f / ctrl-f for find? A strange UX own-goal that requires dev time to accomplish. I think it's probably a mistake in many/most apps, but classic websites doing this is really mind boggling to me. Bitbucket, discourse, why do you do this?
