Before you activate ADP you should probably know that the FBI finds this encryption “deeply concerning.” So if that makes you uncomfortable, this might not be for you. https://t.co/uBggMZrIXg

You’ll also have to pick someone (a friend or family member) to be your “recovery assistant” in case you forget your iPhone passcode and still need your data. But you’re not going to forget your iPhone password, are you?
@matthew_d_green
Know that you will have to bring all of your iCloud-connected devices up to date, or else remove them from your iCloud account. Removing old devices from time to time is a good idea anyway.
@matthew_d_green
Happy Saturday everyone. If you’re an iPhone owner, today would be a great day to turn on Advanced Data Protection: this will end-to-end encrypt your iCloud backups so that only you (and people you choose) can see your photos and data. https://t.co/tQMKixpvho

It's why we're all here, isn't it? Personally I'm taking a break from writing my perf self review in an airstream parked inside my office building on he 5th floor bc if I have too much productivity and not enough shitposts in my head at a time I will die https://t.co/ypLX0funnf

Sad!

Some of yalls dads didn't go on a business trip to England in the 90s and bring back a book unavailable in the US at the time and read it aloud to you and say "Hermione" as herm-ee-own and then pretend that was a joke mispronunciation when the movies came out, and it shows
@mrled
Honestly slack could have this too

I wish you could set a Google alert but in corp Google Drive rather than the web at large, some kind of "please tell me when people are talking about this"

@joshsojoshsoj Yeah... it is hard for me to imagine the insane takeoff speed + malice (or Elder God alienness) + it understanding it needs to conceal its motive + maintaining the pretense for long enough to do damage. Lot of ifs there.

@mrled One response to “why can’t we turn it off if it gets bad” that I like is: if the thing is smart enough, it’ll know not to act in a way that is likely to get it shut off. So it’ll pretend to be aligned.

Banged out two work tasks in a row, now I want to be toxic online for 5 minutes to recover

The obvious solution is of course that MIRI should release a DebateGPT to convince people like me.
@mrled
I can't empathize with the AI FOOM predictors. Everything I read about this has a giant "and then the magic happens" step that I don't follow. I want to talk w people about this, but everyone rolls their eyes at my "why can't we just turn it off if it gets bad" -level questions.

Bought the wrong brand at the store and am reminded yet again how "good" light roast fruity coffee tastes like sour anxiety.

For my cluster project, I've been dogmatically using committed manifests for everything I can; for secrets, that means encrypting them with sops before committing.
But it turns out I forget to encrypt them sometimes. Maybe should use a different paradigm.
@mrled
Thankfully these creds just had permission to update DNS records for some personal domains, nothing that could cost me money with AWS.
It took 14 minutes from pushing the commit to Github to receiving an email from AWS about it. Pretty neat, actually.
